Ben Huels

Ben specializes in franchise loans, commercial real estate, and mergers and acquisitions in Busey’s Northern Illinois region. Since joining the SBA team of professionals in 2020, he strives to efficiently provide the guidance and support customers need—while creating trusted relationships for years to come.

As a college intern, Ben first realized his goal of joining the banking industry by working alongside Busey’s credit analysts in the St. Louis region. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Saint Louis University. Giving back to his community is also important to Ben and has included volunteering with the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club in St. Louis.

Steve Lasiewicz

Growing up in a small family-owned and operated printing business, Steve feels a strong connection with Busey’s SBA clients. He personally understands the issues small business owners face on a day-to-day basis.

By coupling personal and professional experience, Steve offers a unique insight to SBA clients, who may find the world of business banking a bit confusing at times. In his current role, Steve also leads a team of talented business development officers throughout Busey’s footprint in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana and Florida. He joined Busey in 2017 but started in the financial services industry in 1992 with First Midwest Securities. For the 18 years prior to joining Busey, Steve’s experience in the industry grew with roles as a top sales representative at both Business Loan Express and US Bank.

Steve has a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from DePaul University. As a specialist in SBA and Government Guaranteed Lending, Steve helps simplify business banking and gives clients a clear view of how Busey can help them going forward.

Christopher Manick

Christopher Manick is an SBA Business Development Officer with over a decade of commercial banking relationship management in the greater Chicago area market. He specializes in business acquisition financing and advises entrepreneurs on how to utilize SBA financing to grow and improve their businesses. Chris analyzes the needs of your business and provides a loan structure to help you reach your financial goals.

He is a founding member and committee chair of Exit Planning Exchange (XPX) Chicago, a community of professional advisors who work collaboratively to help owners build valuable businesses. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision and a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana.

Chris has extensive experience in successfully financing complex deals for clients needing to purchase or refinance owner-occupied commercial real estate, equipment or working capital, as well as to finance a partner buyout or the purchase of a new business.

Arlene Martin

As an SBA Lender with Busey, Arlene knows there is a great need for business owners to gain access to capital. It is most often a critical component to the success of businesses during start up and growth periods. With over 30 years of experience, she has extensive experience in the financial industry—ranging from Business Banking and Commercial Lending to Commercial Real Estate and SBA financing.

Well-versed in both federal and state loan programs, Arlene believes in supporting the entrepreneurial business owners that have become the backbone of communities across the country. She understands the importance of cultivating strong relationships with clients through education and understanding their key needs. With a variety of concerns facing business owners on any given day, Arlene takes the time to ask big picture questions to gain a full understanding of their financial roadmap and develop a solid strategy.

She serves on the Business Lending Partners Loan Committee in Racine, WI, and the WWBIC Loan Committee in Milwaukee, WI, and is a member of the WWBIC Ambassadorial Advisory Council. In addition, she is a member of the XPX Networking Group and MBBI. Arlene graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Carthage College.

With over 25 years in the banking industry, Roy’s experience ranges from Retail Management to Wealth Management and Trust Services. Prior to joining Busey in 2022, he spent 12 years serving clients as a Business Banking Development Officer and Relationship Manager.

Following his countless client interactions, Roy knows there is no one specific way to successfully run a business nor one way to build wealth. His approach to working with clients is similar to that of an investment advisor—exploring different ideas to find a solution that they will feel comfortable with based on their personal situation and tolerance for risk.

A St. Louis, Missouri native with over 16 years of experience, Mark specializes in acquisitions, partner buyouts and Internal Trade loans with manufacturing companies. His previous lending experience includes new market tax credit lending, real estate lending and USDA business & industry lending, as well as SBA.

Mark has a Bachelor of Arts in Business/Public Relations from Webster University and is a member of the National Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders (NAGGL). He has also served a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, helping to build homes in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
