Brett Petersen

Brett Petersen is Senior Vice President & Market President of McLean County for Busey Bank.

Prior to moving into the role of Market President in 2022, Brett was the Director of Busey Wealth Management’s Private Wealth Advisory in our Bloomington Market for four years. As such, he led the team to ensure our clients received the highest level of service and personalized wealth solutions.

Brett earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Coe College. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Baby Fold, a non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of children and families.

In 2023, Brett was named among the honorees of the American Bankers Association’s Under 40 in Wealth Management Award, which recognizes wealth management and fiduciary professionals who are committed to the highest standards of achievement at work and in their communities. He was also recognized among the 20 Under 40 honorees by The Pantagraph in 2021 for making a difference in Central Illinois through career excellence and community service.

Taylor received his Bachelor Degree in Finance from Illinois State University and is returning to Bloomington directly from our Wealth Management headquarters in Urbana, Illinois. Taylor is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner and specializes in the areas of retirement planning, investment management, estate planning and goal-based financial planning.

Emily Smith

Assisting individuals and families in building progressive financial plans, Emily helps clients draw and navigate a purposeful roadmap to success. With a holistic approach, she looks beyond the numbers and develops a full understanding of their aspirations, challenges and values. As a result, she builds transparent, adaptive strategies and trusted partnerships that are essential in helping clients achieve their financial dreams.

Since joining Busey Investment Services with Raymond James in 2015, Emily has obtained her FINRA Series 7, 63 and 65 securities licenses, and is a life and health insurance producer. A graduate of Eastern Illinois University, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business - Business Administration. With a focus on increasing the number of empowered women in the finance industry, she is part of the Women’s Leadership Alliance as an Ambassador and current Mentee in the Mentor Program. She is also a 2018 graduate of the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce ACE program and a 2021 graduate of the Raymond James Advisor Mastery Program.

Outside of work, Emily has been a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary, secretary of the Associate Board for Impactlife, a Piatt County Election Judge and involved with ALA Illini Girls State.

Emily and her husband live in rural Piatt County with their family.

As Private Client Manager, Kathy is dedicated to providing an elite level of service designed around the unique needs of her clients. By serving as her clients' single point of contact, Kathy delivers seamless coordination of their goals reducing the complexities of their financial life.

A native to Bloomington-Normal, Kathy has almost 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. She enjoys giving back to her community by volunteering her time with various charitable organizations.

Matt Lage

As a Wealth Advisor Planner with Busey Wealth Management, Matt serves as a relationship manager for clients, engaging in proactive and ongoing communication to develop a deep understanding of their unique needs and goals.

Matt joined Busey in 2021 as a Financial Planning Specialist after graduating from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He stepped into his current role in 2023.

Committed to serving others, Matt regularly volunteers with Midwest Food Bank and the Kiwanis Club of Bloomington. He is also a member of Leadership McLean County, a program of the McLean County Chamber of Commerce that aims to provide participants with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to make a positive impact in their community.

As a Wealth Management Client Services Specialist, Jessica enhances the overall service experience for Busey Wealth Management clients, while providing operational and administrative support to fellow team members. In addition, she works closely with the advisors in a team-based atmosphere to further develop relationships with clients.

Since joining Busey in 2016, Jessica has been committed to providing service excellence to clients and helping them to her fullest ability. She holds the Wealth Management Specialist^SM (WMS^SM) designation from the College for Financial Planning®.
